Anthony Joshua has returned to training at Ben Davison’s Essex gym as uncertainty continues to surround his proposed heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury.
The 36-year-old is keeping himself in fighting shape while negotiations over the potential bout remain deadlocked by a contractual disagreement.
Joshua officially parted ways with Davison following his defeat by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024 before joining Oleksandr Usyk’s training team in Spain. He subsequently recorded victories over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga during the past nine months.
Joshua had been targeting a long-awaited clash with Fury, with November reportedly pencilled in for the bout. However, plans have been complicated by differences between the fighters’ contracts.
Joshua’s agreement reportedly requires the fight to take place in the United Kingdom, while Fury’s contract contains no such stipulation. That has created a problem for plans to stage the contest at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 20.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has reportedly sent an addendum to the original agreement in an attempt to resolve the issue.
Fury, however, has publicly claimed that the proposed fight is now off and indicated that he is looking for an alternative opponent.
Amid the uncertainty, Joshua has opted to continue training with Davison, with the pair understood to have remained on good terms since their split and kept in regular contact.
A source close to Joshua’s camp told Ring Magazine that the former two-time unified heavyweight champion wanted to maintain his fitness in familiar surroundings and had approached Davison for assistance.
