Associate Professor of Strategic Communication at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Dr Sule Ya’u Sule, has called on journalists to work in unity and fraternity to ensure adequate information dissemination for the public good and national development.
Dr Sule, former Director-General of Media and Public Relations during ex-Governor Ibrahim Shekarau’s administration in Kano, appealed during the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel’s “Tea Break” social session on Sunday.
The communication expert, who also served as Director of Press under former Military Administrator Dominic Oneya, emphasised that social gatherings in relaxed atmospheres provide journalists opportunities to unwind and develop professional intimacy that enhances their work.
As chairman and sponsor of the event, Dr Sule urged the Correspondents’ Chapel leadership to sustain such initiatives, stating, “I decided to sponsor the event for us to fraternise and socialise. This event will give us the opportunity to relieve pressure after hectic work.”
Former Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Halilu Baba Dantiye, commended Dr Sule’s sponsorship, describing him as a veteran journalist who champions media welfare.
Dantiye, a former National President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, promised continued support for the Chapel’s initiatives while urging adherence to professional ethics.
Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman Comrade Murtala Adewale explained that the “Tea Break” initiative allows members to unwind and interact before returning to their families.
He appreciated Dr Sule’s sponsorship and pledged to maintain standards as more collaborators join future events.
The gathering attracted notable attendees, including Kano State Police PRO SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Customs PRO Tahir Balarabe, NUJ Kano Vice Chairman Mustapha Gambo, and other media personalities and dignitaries.
