Junior Chamber International Hosts Baba, Yara Novelty Games

In a heartwarming display of intergenerational unity, the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Aso, one of the local organisations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), hosted the 12th Baba and Yara Novelty Games to mark 2024 May Day, a day set aside to celebrate Nigerian workers.

The sports get-together, which was held at the hockey pitch of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, had representatives from all chapters of the organisation all over the country.

In a brief interview with journalists, the national president of JCI Aso, Yetunde Adebisi, noted that this was one of the events of JCI Aso, and the event, in particular, actually brings the younger generation and the older generation of local organisations together.

She emphasised that this year, she hoped and wished that the Yara will be the winner of this game, but “one of the things I would love to say to the Yara is that the older members of their organisations have done a whole lot for them, and it is their legacy that they continue.”

Also, the chairman of the Baba Yara Novelty Games, Prince Oluwadunsin Kolade, stressed that Baba Yara is a novelty game. The word Baba means Father while Yara means children. So it’s an intergenerational game between the Yara and the older ones in the organization.

“And the younger ones, the ones coming on board. So it’s one day where we all meet, we celebrate the experience of the Babas and the technical know-how of the Yaras because you know, we are in the Gen Z world now.

“Everything is technology-driven. So it’s one thing where we all sit together we play games, and the Yara will be able to learn one or two things from the Babas from the experiences, and then the Babas in turn will be able to learn one or two things about technology from the younger ones,” he said.

The event involved all JCI Aso, some local organisations and some members of the Abuja Para Olympics team participating in Football, Monopoly, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and some traditional sports.
