The Action Peoples Party (APP) has recorded a significant boost in its legislative presence following the defection of two serving members of the House of Representatives to the party.
Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who was previously in the the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Hon. Mathew Nwaogu, formerly of the Labour Party (LP), officially defected to the APP during plenary on Tuesday.
Their separate letters of defection were read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen.
In their letters, both lawmakers cited internal crises within their former political parties as the primary reason for their decision to join the APP, noting that the development had hindered effective political participation and representation.
In a swift move to consolidate its growing caucus, the APP has announced the appointment of Hon. Ugochinyere as the party’s House of Representatives Caucus Leader.
The National Chairman of the party, Barr. Uche Nnadi, who was present at the House plenary, formally welcomed the defecting lawmakers into the party.
He described their decision as a bold step towards strengthening democratic values and deepening effective representation.
Barr. Nnadi further assured that the APP remained committed to providing a credible platform for progressive lawmakers dedicated to people-oriented governance.
He emphasised that the inclusion of the new members would enhance the party’s influence and legislative impact within the National Assembly.
The APP reiterated its openness to like-minded leaders across the country and reaffirmed its resolve to continue building a formidable political force anchored on accountability, service, and national development.
