A section of the popular Oba Market, located at the heart of Ring Road in Benin City, Edo State, has been gutted by fire again on Wednesday night.
Goods worth millions of naira were said to be lost in the inferno as shops owner who rushed to the scene watched helplessly as firefighters and others battled to contend the raging fire.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the incident remained unknown.
The market, which was previously destroyed by fire during the administration of the immediate-past Governor Godwin Obaseki, was undergoing reconstruction under the incumbent Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Oredo local government area council, Hon. Gabriel Iduseri, has visited the burnt Oba market, which falls under the LGA.
During an on-the-spot assessment in the wee hours of Thursday, Iduseri vowed not to leave the traders to face the loss alone.
