JUST-IN: Bandits Kill 6 Soldiers, 20 Vigilantes In Zamfara

No fewer than six soldiers, one Police personnel and 20 vigilantes were killed when bandits attacked troops in Zamfara State.

Military sources said while the attack was successfully repelled by the troops, killing scores of the bandits, two other soldiers were missing in action.

The source said during the attack, which took place on Monday, July 24, 2023 on troops of Sector 1 Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kango while on foot patrol, the government forces suffered casualties too.

“The troops repelled the attack inflicting casualties on the bandits.

“The corpses of the deceased were deposited at Yerima Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau in Zamfara State. Specific details of the deceased are being withheld until completion of administrative procedures to notify their families.”

Meanwhile, he said search and rescue operation was still in progress, adding that the FOB has been beefed up following the threats of reprisal by the bandits due to the casualties they sustained.

“Troops are poised for further offensive against the bandits,” he added.

The director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, could not be reached at the time of filing this report. Also, he was yet to respond to text messages sent to him.
