The National Industrial Court in Abuja has issued an interim injunction stopping the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) from embarking on its planned nationwide strike scheduled to begin on Monday, January 12, 2026.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice E.D. Subilim, ordered NARD, its leadership, members, and agents to desist from calling, directing, organising, or participating in any form of industrial action. The order also prohibited any activities such as work stoppages, go-slows, picketing, or any protest that could disrupt healthcare services.

According to the court, the restraining order remained in effect, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice, which has been fixed for January 21, 2026.

The suit was instituted by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Federal Government of Nigeria against NARD, its President, Dr. Mohammed Suleiman, and Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim.

NARD had earlier threatened to withdraw services beginning January 12 over what it described as the Federal Government’s failure to implement agreements reached with the medical doctors.
