Tension enveloped athletes, residents and spectators on Tuesday, following a gas explosion that occurred at the Alake Sports Complex; one of the venues of the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Although details of the explosion remained sketchy as at the time of filling this report, LEADERSHIP however gathered that a gas truck was supplying content to the complex’s generating set when it suddenly caught fire.

The development triggered panic among athletes and spectators nearby who all scampered for safety to avoid being caught up in the fire.
