The youths who took to the streets to protest the hardship associated with rising cost of living brandished placards with different messages demanding an end to fuel subsidy removal while chanting anti-government songs.

Among other messages, the inscriptions on the protesters’ placards read, ‘Fuel Subsidy Must Be Back’, ‘Stop Anti-Masses Policies’, ‘Enough is Enough’, ‘We Are Not Slaves In Our Country’ and ‘Hardship Is Unbearable.’

Protest: Federal Gov’t Mandates VCs To Protect Staff, Students, Others

LEADERSHIP recalls heightened tension across the country over plans to commence a nationwide strike on August 1 over the economic situation in the land.

The protest by the youths on Monday came three days earlier than the scheduled commencement date for the protest that has seen government and other stakeholders appealing for calm and patience for the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to fix the challenges.

This is as the government at the federal and sub-nationals cautioned that the protests could be hijacked by hoodlums and snowball into violence.
