President Bola Tinubu has resumed discussions with the Organised Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday.

This critical meeting aims to finalise the details of the proposed new national minimum wage.

The Labour delegation is led by NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo. This follow-up session comes after last week’s discussions, where President Tinubu emphasised the need for improved welfare, better wages, and enhanced working conditions for Nigerian workers. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the new wage structure would be fair and beneficial to all.

“Our workers deserve better welfare, better wages, and safe, enhanced working conditions,” President Tinubu stated during the previous meeting. He assured that his administration was diligently working towards a wage that would be acceptable to all stakeholders.

The Labour leaders have steadfastly maintained their demand for a N250,000 monthly minimum wage, contrasting with the federal government’s proposal of N62,000. This ongoing negotiation seeks to bridge the gap between the two positions.
