Kaduna Attackers Killed 8 Of My Family Members, Resident Laments

A survivor of the deadly attack on Naridom community in Chawai Chiefdom of Kauru local government area of Kaduna State, Mr Yunana Rana, has recounted how the attackers killed eight members of his family in a single night.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Friday, the distraught resident said they invaded the village in the early hours of Monday, shooting sporadically into the air before descending on the halpless residents.

According to him, the sound of gunfire threw the entire community into panic as families scrambled for safety, while the assailants continued their assault without resistance.

Rana alleged that after killing his mother, the attackers removed her eyes, describing the discovery as one of the most horrifying moments of the attack.

“They came at night and started shooting sporadically into the air. Everyone woke up in confusion because we didn’t know where the gunshots were coming from. People were running in different directions, trying to save their lives,” he recalled.

Rana said when the attack ended, he discovered that eight members of his family had been killed, leaving him devastated and struggling to cope with the magnitude of the loss.

“I lost eight members of my family in one night. They killed my mother, my brothers, my niece and my nephews. One of my nephews was just two years old. It is a pain I cannot describe,” he said.

The grieving resident said the attack has left many families in Naridom traumatised, with several residents displaced after the attackers also set homes and food shops ablaze during the invasion.

Corroborating his account, the Village Head of Naridom, Garba Bawa, said the attack has thrown the community into a humanitarian crisis, with many residents now battling hunger after all the food shops in the village were razed.

According to him, many residents have fled to neighbouring communities for fear of fresh attacks, while those who remained are living in fear and struggling to survive without food and other necessities.

Bawa further disclosed that several victims injured during the attack are receiving treatment under difficult conditions and require urgent government intervention to be transferred to better-equipped hospitals because of the severity of their injuries.

He added that many families have also been rendered homeless after their houses were razed during the attack, leaving them without shelter or any means of livelihood.

The village head appealed to the Kaduna State Government, the Federal Government, and humanitarian organisations to urgently provide food, temporary shelter, medical support, and other relief materials to affected families, enabling them to rebuild their lives.

Also speaking, the Youth Leader of Naridom, Ishaya Dawa, urged the Kaduna State Government to use the tragedy as an opportunity to address the long-standing infrastructural challenges confronting the community.

Dawa also called for the establishment of a functional Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), lamenting that residents are forced to travel long distances to access medical care, even during emergencies.

He added that with many residents displaced, others homeless, and survivors struggling to access food following the attack, urgent government intervention is needed to restore normalcy and give the community hope.
