The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Lawal Usman has cautioned against reprisal while strongly condemning the unwarranted killing of some travellers from the Northern part of the country in Uromi, Edo State.
Senator Usman called on the Federal Government, the Edo State Government and security agencies “to conduct a swift, thorough and transparent investigation into this heinous crime and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.”
Usman, in a statement vehemently condemned the wanton murder of the travellers, describing the killing of the innocent persons in Edo State as barbaric and senseless.
He therefore urged the Federal Government, the Edo State Government and security agencies to fish out all those behind the killings and punish them appropriately.
The lawmaker also appealed to government at all levels as well as community leaders to prioritise dialogue, reconciliation and peace-building initiatives to de-escalate ethnic tensions and foster national cohesion.
The Kaduna Central Senator also called on Northern leaders and patriotic Nigerians to remain calm “but unwavering in the pursuit of justice, saying, “We must resist any attempt to exploit this tragedy to sow division or incite reprisal attacks.”
“Nigeria’s strength lies in our diversity, and we must reaffirm our commitment to tolerance, mutual respect, and the sanctity of human life,” he added.
Usman commiserated with the families of the murdered travellers, describing the loss of their loved ones as “a collective tragedy” and praying that Almighty God grants the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
