The Chairman of Kagarko Local Area of Kaduna State, Hon. Muhuyideen Umar, has urged the Koro people to embrace a culture of peace, unity, and tolerance to achieve sustainable community growth and development.

Hon. Umar, who spoke at the 2025 Koro Day Festival at Government Secondary School, Kabacha, with the theme, ‘Revitalising Koro Cultural Heritage: Bridging Generations, Uniting Communities, ‘ highlighted the importance of unity in fostering peace and development.

The Chairman, who served as the Chief Host at the event, noted that the festival was organised to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Koro people.
He emphasised the importance of peace, unity, and dialogue among the people of Kaduna State, urging them to respect one another irrespective of religion or tribe.

While reiterating the importance of peace as a panacea for development, Umar said, “Let us value unity, tolerance and mutual respect. We cannot have development if we don’t live in peace, and we cannot live in peace if we are not united. We cannot be united if we don’t love one another. We can only love one another if we understand our differences and tolerate one another”

However, he thanked the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, for redeeming his electoral promises to the people of Kagarko Local Government Area.

Earlier in his welcome address, Prof. John Yakubu Magaji, President of the Koro Community Development Association (KCDA) in the Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State, appealed to the government of Uba Sani to consider upgrading the Koro Chiefdom to first-class status.

He also appealed to the governor to restore the district heads and correct the chiefdom’s name from ‘Kubacha chiefdom’ to its rightful name—Koro chiefdom.

He lamented the insecurity bedevilling the communities and urged the government and security agencies to double their efforts in tackling the menace.

“Our communities suffer from a lack of electricity. A few electrification efforts have been vandalised.

“Despite hosting one of the largest dams supplying water to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), our people face chronic water scarcity and waterborne diseases”.

The Commissioner of Ministry of Sports Development, Benjamin Gugong, who represented the deputy governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, assured the Koro people that he would inform the government about all the issues they had listed.
