Kaduna Golf Club is set to host the prestigious annual First Bank Kaduna Golf Tournament on Saturday, 28th March 2026. The historic club, established in 1921, anticipates over 200 amateur and professional golfers vying for honours across various categories in what promises to be a significantly upgraded event.

Organisers have indicated that this year’s edition will stand out from previous tournaments, not only in terms of participant numbers but also due to a substantial increase in funding injected to bolster the programme.

Speaking exclusively to LEADERSHIP Sports, Hon. Nazifi Jibrin, Captain of the Kaduna Golf Club, confirmed that meticulous arrangements are underway to ensure a seamless and successful tournament.

He emphasised that the one-day event, proudly sponsored by First Bank, will provide a prime platform for golfers from across Nigeria to exhibit their skills in categories including professionals, veteran men, and ladies.

A notable change for 2026 is the reintroduction of professional golfers. “Last year there was no professional player that participated in the pitch. But this time around we decided to invite a few professionals to come and play based on invitations,” Jibrin explained.

This move is expected to elevate the competitive standard, contributing to the increased participant count, which has already surpassed last year’s 150.

Beyond the greens, the tournament will also embrace a strong community focus. Jibrin revealed, “We are also going to visit the hospital as part of charity for the tournament and also going to school to inculcate golf into the pupils at that level and denounce the notion that golf is only for the rich, which is absolutely not true.” This initiative aims to broaden golf’s appeal and challenge common misconceptions about the sport’s accessibility.

Jibrin expressed profound gratitude to First Bank for their continued and expanding sponsorship of sporting events in the North. “I would like to sincerely appreciate the top management of First Bank, considering the fact that they are a sport-loving organisation. They have shown that over the years,” he stated.

He highlighted the bank’s commendable decision to extend their golf sponsorship from Lagos and the South to include the North, having previously supported polo in the region.

Reaffirming the club’s commitment, Jibrin assured First Bank that their partnership would continue to yield positive results, building on the success of previous editions. His overarching ambition remains to elevate Kaduna Golf Club to a national benchmark within the country’s golfing landscape.
