The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Hon. Shehu Usman Bawa, popularly known as ABG, has called for peaceful and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Bawa made the call during a courtesy visit to the Kaduna State Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), where he commended the corps for its commitment to protecting lives and property despite prevailing security challenges.
He urged political actors and their supporters to shun violence and conduct themselves in ways that promote credible democratic processes.
The PDP governorship candidate said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between political stakeholders and security agencies as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
He lauded the officers and men of the NSCDC for their professionalism, discipline and sacrifices in safeguarding critical national assets and maintaining law and order across Kaduna State, describing their contributions to peace and stability as invaluable.
According to him, security agencies remain critical to the sustenance of democracy and the conduct of free, fair and credible elections, stressing that electoral success can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace, justice and public confidence.
Bawa urged politicians across party lines to embrace issue-based campaigns and avoid inflammatory rhetoric, hate speech and acts of violence capable of undermining the democratic process.
“Democracy can only thrive in an environment of peace and mutual respect. Political actors must prioritise the interests of the people by engaging in issue-based campaigns and avoiding actions that could threaten public order and the integrity of the electoral process,” he said.
Responding, the Kaduna State Commandant of the NSCDC, Panam Musa, commended the PDP governorship candidate for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of confidence in security institutions and their constitutional responsibilities.
Musa assured that the Corps would remain professional, impartial and committed to protecting all citizens without discrimination, irrespective of political affiliation or status.
He reaffirmed the NSCDC’s readiness to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the security of lives and property before, during, and after the elections, while providing a conducive environment for democratic activities.
