Pupils and teachers of Kawon Mai Gari Primary School in Kano were thrown into excitement on Monday as Kannywood actor, Nuhu Abdullahi, equipped the school with learning facilities and launched a development foundation.

The event coincided with the resumption of the third term, as beneficiaries expressed relief over improved learning conditions after years of inadequate infrastructure.

The intervention, executed under the newly launched Nuhu Abdullahi Development Foundation, included the provision of 108 single-seater desks, the renovation of three classrooms, the furnishing of an Early Childhood Care and Development and Education (ECCDE) ward, the construction of separate toilet facilities for staff and pupils, and the upgrade of staff rooms.

Speaking during the inauguration, Abdullahi said the initiative was aimed at improving access to quality education and creating a conducive learning environment for children.

“It is a profound honour to stand before you on this historic day as our children resume school. They are not merely entering a building; they are reclaiming a future we all have a duty to protect,” he said.

He added that the foundation would complement government efforts and align its interventions with global standards, particularly in education and sanitation.

Abdullahi commended the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, for ongoing education reforms, including school renovations and teacher recruitment, as well as President Bola Tinubu for initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

Some pupils who spoke with journalists described the intervention as timely. A pupil, Lusana Sani, said many learners previously sat on bare floors due to a shortage of desks. In contrast, another pupil, Mustapha Shuiabu, expressed hope that similar support would be extended to other classrooms.

The state Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, represented by the Director of Schools, Sa’ad Umar, said that despite ongoing reforms, schools still face infrastructural and workforce challenges.

He called for stronger collaboration between the government, private individuals, and organisations to address the gaps, while urging school authorities to maintain the facilities.

He also appealed to parents and the community to take ownership of the infrastructure to ensure its sustainability.

Community leaders and Parent-Teacher Association representatives commended the initiative and called for more interventions to improve the standard of education in the state.
