Malam Auwal, father of Umar Auwalu, the prime suspect in the murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, has called for an expedited trial of his son and all others involved.

Speaking in a viral video interview with Freedom Radio Kano, a visibly distressed Malam Auwal said he would not attend the court proceedings unless summoned, insisting that there was no justification for a prolonged trial given the gravity of the crime.

“I am not even going to be at court during the trial, neither will his mother, unless I am called by the court,” he said. “There is no need for a prolonged trial after what he did to my sister, her children and my wife’s sister along with her co-wife. He should not be allowed to continue taking up space in prison, eating government food, when they have not benefited society in any way.”

LEADERSHIP reports that the Kano State Police Command had earlier announced the arrest of three principal suspects in connection with the Dorayi killings. The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.

Police further disclosed that Umar Auwalu, alleged to be the leader of the syndicate and a nephew of the deceased housewife, confessed to the Dorayi killings during interrogation. He also admitted that the same syndicate had carried out a series of gruesome killings and attacks in the recent past, including the killing and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.

One of the women killed in the earlier Tudun Yola incident was identified as Umar’s maternal aunt, deepening the family tragedy surrounding the case.

Malam Auwal also raised suspicions that his son might be linked to the unresolved death of his younger sister, who died after unknown assailants plucked out her eyes and cut off her tongue. With the recent confessions and arrests, he said he now believed Umar may have been involved.

“The court should not be delaying cases like this or giving room for pardons from the government, like what happened in the case of Maryam Sanda,” he added. “The authorities should ensure everyone faces judgement for what he did.”

The police said investigations were ongoing and assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries. The death of the family of seven has continued to generate outrage across Kano State and beyond.
