Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) and Prevention Bill 2024 into law.
The bill sponsored by the member representing Dala constituency, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini, was considered in the committee of the whole house and third reading by the clerk, Alhaji Bashir Diso and later passed into law by the speaker, Alhaji Jibril Falgore, who presided over yesterday’s plenary session.
The centre when in operation would dwell on prevention, detection, investigation, monitoring and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases and other related matters in the state.
Governor Abba Yusuf had in January written to the House seeking its approval for the establishment of the Centre in order to address the prevailing disease outbreak in the state.
In another development, speaker of the House, Falgore reassured the vice chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Prof Sagir Abbas and his team of his unwavering commitment towards uplifting educational standards across the state.
In a statement by the spokesperson to the speaker, Kamaludden Shawai, the speaker gave the assurance when the VC visited the speaker in his office.
While appreciating their visit, Falgore said the Assembly is ever ready to deliver good legislation and partner with relevant stakeholders like BUK to improve the sector.
Earlier, the vice chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, emphasised the need to work together with the Kano Assembly in the areas of quality legislation aimed at improving the development of the education sector.
Highlighting the track record of BUK among other universities across Nigeria and the world, Prof. Sagir said that there are more than 18,000 Kano State indigenes in the university and in terms of ratings, BUK is fifth in national ranking, which he said was quite commendable.
