The Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to formally respond to allegations reportedly raised in the United States against Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, including claims linking him to terrorism and moves to freeze his assets.

The motion was moved during Tuesday’s plenary by Usman Tasiu, member representing Kiru Constituency, and presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore.

Presenting the matter under public explanation, Tasiu described Kwankwaso as a committed public servant whose tenure in office brought significant development to Kano State. He cited the former governor’s contributions to education, infrastructure development and peace-building across religious and ethnic divides.

According to him, the Kwankwasiyya Movement leader has consistently played a unifying role in the country, mediating in conflicts between the northern and southern regions, while maintaining a firm position against terrorism. He added that Kwankwaso remained a father-figure and mentor to many, irrespective of religious affiliations.

Tasiu called on the state government to liaise with the Federal Government with a view to engaging the US authorities over the matter. He urged that necessary diplomatic steps be taken to ensure that the former lawmaker was not unfairly singled out in any proposed legislation before the US parliament.

Following deliberations, the House unanimously adopted the motion and urged the state government to take appropriate action on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Assembly also approved separate motions calling on the state government to construct roads in parts of Tarauni, Madobi and Kura/Garun Malam local government areas. The motions were moved by Kabiru Dahiru (Tarauni), Sulaiman Ishaq (Madobi), the Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello, and Zakariyya Alhassan (Kura/Garun Malam).

The House subsequently adjourned plenary to Monday, March 2, after a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini.
