The Kano State Government has announced the resignation of the commissioner for water resources, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa.
Governor Abba Yusuf accepted the resignation, which took effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, who noted that Doguwa formally tendered his resignation on Monday, bringing to an end his tenure at the Ministry of Water Resources, where he served for about one year following his redeployment from the Ministry of Education.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the former commissioner for his commitment, loyalty and dedicated service to the people of the State.
He recalled that Doguwa had earlier served as commissioner for education, where he played a key role in advancing educational reforms, including the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector, before his transfer to the water resources ministry.
According to the governor, Doguwa’s stewardship in the water sector recorded significant milestones, particularly in the rehabilitation of water facilities and expansion of potable water supply to several communities across the state.
He noted that the former commissioner’s leadership strengthened institutional capacity within the ministry and enhanced service delivery in line with the administration’s vision of ensuring sustainable access to water for residents.
Describing Doguwa as a disciplined and hardworking public servant, Governor Yusuf said his contributions would remain part of the administration’s achievements.
The governor wished him success in his future endeavours and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining progress in the water sector and ensuring uninterrupted water supply across the state.
Meanwhile, the governor has directed the commissioner for education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, to oversee the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
