A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Aliyu Adamu and Mubarak Abdussalam, to death by hanging for killing an elderly man, Alhaji Dahiru, in Yankusa, over his land documents.
The court also sentenced their accomplice, Sadik Sanusi, to seven years’ imprisonment for his involvement in the incident.
The Kano State Government had brought the three defendants before the court on charges of criminal conspiracy, murder and concealing a crime.
Ruling on the case, Justice Fatima Adamu of Court 18 sitting at Miller Road, held that the prosecution had established the allegations against the defendants through evidence presented during the trial.
The court found that Adamu and Abdussalam stabbed Dahiru to death, while Sanusi allegedly conveyed them to the scene using his commercial tricycle.
Evidence before the court also showed that the victim’s body was burnt after the killing.
The prosecution, led by Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir, told the court that the defendants planned and executed the crime in a bid to obtain the deceased’s land ownership documents.
Justice Adamu consequently sentenced Adamu and Abdussalam to death by hanging, while Sanusi was handed a seven-year prison sentence.
