The Kano State government has directed the attorney-general and commissioner for Justice to take over the prosecution of suspects linked to the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis, as the father of the prime suspect publicly called for the swift trial and execution of his son if found guilty.

The directive followed last Saturday’s killing, which plunged the ancient city into shock and grief. Three principal suspects are currently in police custody in connection with the incident.

Addressing journalists on Monday, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Maude, described the crime as “heinous and inhuman,” stating that Governor Abba Yusuf ordered his office to assume control of the case to ensure justice is dispensed promptly and transparently. He said the move was aimed at guaranteeing strict adherence to due process and ensuring that justice is not only done but also seen to be done.

Maude commended the Kano State Police Command for what he described as a swift and professional response that led to the arrest of the suspects. He assured residents that the state government would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and keep the public informed as the prosecution progresses.
