Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the sum of N93.8 million as scholarship for 179 Kano State indigenes undergoing training at the Nigerian Law School.

The scholarship scheme, which provides N524,000 for each beneficiary, was inaugurated at the Coronation Hall of the Kano state Government House, with the Accountant General of the state, Jamila Magaji Abdullahi, initiating payment on the spot.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Farouk Ibrahim, who represented the governor; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, directors from the Ministry of Justice; a representative of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Bayero University Kano; and other key stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the SSG said the initiative was in line with Governor Yusuf’s commitment to education and youth empowerment, stressing that the scholarship was designed to ease the financial burden of law school training and encourage excellence among aspiring legal practitioners.

“The governor remains committed to policies and programmes that remove barriers to education and empower young people to achieve their full potential,” Ibrahim stated.

In his remarks, the Attorney-General described the scholarship programme as a strategic investment in Kano’s justice sector, noting that the Ministry of Justice facilitated its approval to strengthen the state’s legal system.
