The Kano State Government has commissioned 40 refurbished buses belonging to the state-owned transport company, Kano Line, as part of efforts to revitalise public transportation in the state.
The buses were handed over to designated drivers at a ceremony attended by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who said the move underscored his administration’s commitment to repositioning the transport sector and improving mobility within Kano State and beyond.
Yusuf noted that the vehicles had been grounded for a long period due to mechanical faults and vandalism, including the removal of some engines, which hampered the operations of the transport agency.
“This is part of our broader effort to ensure that government property is put to productive use and that citizens enjoy safe and affordable transportation,” the governor said.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Kano Line, Sa’idu Abdullahi Shu’aibu, assured the public that the agency would ensure proper maintenance of the buses and strict adherence to road safety regulations.
He said the management would prioritise safety and efficiency in order to deliver reliable transport services across designated routes.
Governor Yusuf also charged the drivers to operate the buses with honesty and a strong sense of responsibility. He disclosed that two drivers have been assigned to each vehicle to promote compliance with traffic laws and enhance operational accountability.
