Kano State government has disbursed N50,000 each to 5,200 women under its monthly empowerment and poverty alleviation programme.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented the grants to the beneficiaries at the Government House in Kano, describing the initiative as part of his administration’s sustained efforts to promote economic self-reliance and reduce poverty among women.

The governor said the beneficiaries, drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state, were selected through a credible committee to ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution process.

According to him, the empowerment programme was conceived to support women in establishing and expanding household and small-scale businesses, thereby strengthening family livelihoods and contributing to the state’s economy.

“We are determined to work for the people of Kano, and you should expect more empowerment packages from the government,” Governor Yusuf said.

He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds by investing in viable businesses of their choice.

“Go and turn around the economy, from your houses to various markets and major markets in Kano City,” the governor added.

The minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hajiya Mariya Bunkure, commended Governor Yusuf for sustaining empowerment initiatives targeted at women and youths, describing the programme as a significant intervention in improving livelihoods and promoting economic inclusion.

She urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the government’s support by making productive use of the grants and backing policies and programmes that promote development.

Also, the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, thanked Governor Yusuf for the sustained monthly empowerment support for women.

She said the programme was already making a positive impact on households and communities by enabling women to engage in income-generating activities and improve their economic conditions.
