The Kano State Government, through its Acting Commissioner of Youths and Sports, Hon. Hamza Safiyanu Kachako, has issued a three-game ultimatum to the management and technical crew of Kano Pillars Football Club to regain its winning streak.
This comes in response to the team’s recent struggles in the ongoing 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Hon. Kachako in a statement on Friday highlighted the government’s concern over Kano Pillars’ lackluster performance in recent matches, which has seen the team drop critical points and slide in the league standings.
Kano Pillars faced a significant setback in their last match, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Bendel Insurance of Benin.
The loss followed consecutive defeats, including a 1-2 home defeat to Shooting Stars and a crushing 5-0 loss to Enyimba International.
Kachako emphasised the state government’s unwavering commitment to supporting Kano Pillars in their quest for success under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf.
However, the Commissioner made it clear that decisive action must be taken to reverse the team’s recent downturn, asserting that the government will not sit by, while the beloved Kano team continues to struggle.
The statement reads in part, “The management and technical crew of Kano Pillars have been tasked with a challenging turnaround in the next three games, starting with their upcoming match against struggling Gombe United on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
Following this, they face an away fixture against former champions, Akwa United and a home encounter against Doma United of Gombe.
Currently positioned in 7th place on the Nigeria Premier Football League table with 41 points from 30 matches, Kano Pillars are being urged to secure maximum points in these crucial fixtures to salvage their season.
The ministry has allocated the necessary funds for Kano Pillars FC to complete its remaining matches in the league.
This support, approved by Governor Yusuf, demonstrates the state government’s dedication to promoting sports within the region.
Kachako expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his steadfast support of the team, and called upon loyal fans to continue backing Kano Pillars during this critical period.
