A collective of influential personalities under the aegis of the Kano Concerned Citizens Movement (KCCM) has honoured Senator Barau Jibrin with the Award of Excellence.
The group said the recognition is a testament to Barau’s exceptional performance during his first year in office.
Barau is also the first deputy speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and became the deputy Senate president on June 13, 2023, marking the commencement of the 10th Senate’s term.
In his inaugural year, Senator Barau garnered immense praise for his prolific contributions, particularly in private member’s bills. His remarkable feat of introducing 21 bills of this nature set him apart as the senator with the highest number of such bills.
Under the guidance of the erudite scholar Professor Garba Shehu, the KCCM delegation presented Senator Barau with the Award of Excellence at his office on Tuesday.
Shehu articulated the rationale behind bestowing this distinguished accolade upon him, lauding his outstanding performance as the deputy president of the Senate.
“You have made remarkable strides in your first year as the Deputy President of the Senate, not only within Kano but across our great nation. Your contributions have significantly contributed to the growth and progress of our beloved country,” he said.
Shehu further emphasised Senator Barau’s multifaceted impact, highlighting the exceptional advancements he spearheaded in the education sector, particularly in tertiary institutions.
He noted that establishing scholarship programmes and infrastructural development initiatives within these institutions exemplify Senator Barau’s dedication and commitment to fostering educational excellence. He added that in light of his remarkable achievements, Senator Barau was deemed most deserving of this prestigious award, which stands as the highest honour bestowed by the movement.
Additionally, Shehu commended Barau for his instrumental role in hosting the Second Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Kano, saying the positive impact of this event on the state’s economy cannot be overemphasized.
Expressing his gratitude, Senator Barau thanked the KCCM for the honour bestowed upon him, acknowledging that the award would encourage him to continue his tireless efforts.
“This award motivates me to further dedicate myself to the betterment of every sector in our state and nation. Each accolade signifies recognition for past accomplishments and serves as a call to action, urging us to surpass our previous endeavours,” he said.
He pledged to collaborate with associations and groups that aim to advance Kano State’s and the nation’s development.
