Kano Inaugurates Committee On Health Fellow Programme

The Kano State government has inaugurated the Health Fellows Programme Selection Committee to attract talent and enhance service delivery.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Yusuf, said the committee is saddled with the responsibility of equipping emerging professionals with advanced leadership skills, training, field engagement, and recruitment of top talents across 44 local government areas of the state to drive health sector transformation.

He said the disciplines include medicine, Information Technology, social sciences, and finance, emphasising that the state government is committed to enhancing the state’s excellent healthcare system.

“It is a transformative initiative designed to build healthcare capacity at the grassroots level, ensuring sustainable health sector reforms and improving access to quality care for all people of the state,“ the commissioner said.

Therefore, he urged them to ensure a transparent and inclusive talent selection process for a robust and standardised system.

Meanwhile, the committee will be chaired by the State Coordinator of the World Health Organization, Dr. Mayana Abubakar, while the State Coordinator of the Sector-Wide Approach Project, Dr. Nura Abubakar, will serve as secretary.

Other members include the ministry‘s Director of Public Health and Disease Control, Dr. Ibrahim Gano, Gaya LGA Chairman Mahmud Tajo, Aliyu Kiru, Dr. Musa Muhammad and Dr. Sha’awa Mardiyya Sa’id from the Kano Emirate Committee on Health.

In his response, the committee‘s Chairman, Dr. Abubakar, on behalf of WHO Country Representative Dr. Kazadi Mulombo Walter, appreciated the Coordinating Minister of Health and Kano state Commissioner for Health for the nomination.

He assured the committee would discharge its responsibility with due diligence, transparency, equity, and gender to justify the confidence reposed on them.
