Kano NNPP Chair Dismisses Expulsion, Describes Claim As Child’s Play

The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has dismissed his purported expulsion by ward executives of the party, describing the action as child’s play that lacked constitutional backing.

Dungurawa stated this amid a controversy generated by a resolution adopted by executive members of the NNPP in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, which announced his expulsion over alleged anti-party activities.

The ward executives had accused the state chairman of creating divisions within the party, instigating internal crises, failure to pay party dues and making abusive remarks against Governor Abba Yusuf.

Reacting during an interview with Journalists in Kano, Dungurawa dismissed the development as inconsequential, insisting that only the national leadership of the NNPP has the authority to discipline or remove a state chairman.

“Where did you see it coming from? It is useless; it doesn’t have any effect. It is like a village head claiming he has sacked an emir. Can that ever happen? It can never happen, ” he said.

He argued that the NNPP constitution clearly spelt out disciplinary procedures, stressing that a ward executive lacked the power to sack a state chairman, senator or governor.

According to him, petitions or complaints against party officials were meant to be forwarded to the national headquarters, which would then convene the appropriate organs to take a decision.

“Not ordinary people taking decisions on their own,” he added.

On the the current political tension in the state, Dungurawa highlighted that, the situation was calming and that progress was being recorded through ongoing engagements by the party’s national leader with stakeholders, including lawmakers.

“We thank God because there is progress. Between yesterday and today, the situation is improving. By tomorrow, you will understand where things stand,” he said.

On speculations of a possible defection of Governor Yusuf or the NNPP’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the state chairman dismissed the rumours, insisting that both leaders remain in the NNPP.

“Did you see Kwankwaso remove his red cap? Did you see Abba remove the NNPP flag beside him?” he queried.

He also brushed aside reports that some local government chairmen and members of the House of Assembly had endorsed a possible defection, describing such moves as irrelevant.

“Our main issue is the governor. All these attachments you are mentioning are irrelevant,” Dungurawa said, adding that the party would not support any move to another party.

He reaffirmed that he remains the NNPP chairman in Kano State and vowed to continue working for the unity and victory of the party.
