The Kano State Police Command has intensified security surveillance across border communities following a strategy review meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, according to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Monday.
The meeting, held on Monday at the State Police Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, brought together Operational Commanders and other senior officers to reassess current security measures and map out improved approaches to keeping the state safe.
In the statement released on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CSP Kiyawa said CP Bakori commended the officers for their “commitment and selfless service” to the Command and the people of Kano State. The CP also reviewed recent security gains and urged commanders to sustain efforts toward reducing crime.
He noted that the review session aligned with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, particularly on strengthening community-based policing. To this end, CP Bakori directed Operational Commanders to deepen sensitisation campaigns in rural and urban communities to educate residents on their roles in maintaining peace.
A key highlight of the meeting, according to the statement, was the focus on security along border communities, especially villages in Shanono, Tsanyawa and Rogo local government areas of the Stats. CP Bakori explained that the Command has reinforced personnel and equipment deployments in these vulnerable locations while calling for increased vigilance.
Senior officers in attendance included Deputy Commissioners in charge of Administration, Operations and Investigation; Assistant Commissioners overseeing Intelligence, Area Commands and specialised squads; as well as Tactical Commanders from units such as Rapid Response, Anti-Kidnapping, Anti-Daba, and Safer Highway.
