This has drawn the attention of the public following the declaration of a state of emergency on education in Kano State by Governor Abba Yusuf.

Like many other schools in the state, the Special Primary School is also faced with various challenges that are calling for the attention of the state government.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the headmaster explained that the school, which has 2,890 pupils with 31 teachers, is extremely porous and unsafe for learning.

“This is the first school in Kumbotso local government area built in 1948, but still doesn’t have a perimeter fencing around it.

“We are faced with a lot of dangers of encroachments, trespassing and pupils leaving school at will as a result of lack of perimeter fencing.

“We have only one security staff who is naturally overwhelmed with the situation. We have 14 classes out of which only four have seats while in the remaining classes the pupils seat on the floor,” the headmaster laments.

Also, responding to questions from our reporter, Aminu Ilyasu, the village head of Kumbotso town called on the government to prioritize fencing the school and easing the hardship on the people.

“People are currently faced with high level of poverty as a result of which they engage their children in hawking which distracts them from school and their performance as well.

“He advised that the government find a way to address this to achieve its aim of bringing the children back to school.
