Kano To Enrol 6,000 Vulnerable TB, Leprosy Patients In Health Insurance Scheme

The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency has unveiled plans to enrol 6,000 vulnerable persons living with tuberculosis and leprosy into the state health insurance scheme to improve their access to quality healthcare.

The Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar, disclosed this on Tuesday during a strategic meeting with the 44 Local Government Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisors held at Ni’ima Guest Palace in Kano.

She said the initiative was aimed at removing financial barriers preventing vulnerable patients from accessing healthcare and would enable beneficiaries to receive comprehensive medical services through the agency’s network of accredited health facilities.

According to Muktar, the programme aligns with the Kano State Government’s healthcare reform agenda and its commitment to expanding healthcare coverage for vulnerable residents through sustainable health financing.

She described the collaboration between KSCHMA and the State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme as a major step towards improving disease control, strengthening case management, and reducing the financial burden of treatment on affected patients.

“The enrolment will ensure that vulnerable TB and leprosy patients have uninterrupted access to quality healthcare services without the hardship of out-of-pocket payments,” she said.

The KSCHMA boss urged the 44 local government TB and leprosy supervisors to intensify community mobilisation, accurately identify eligible beneficiaries and provide technical support to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme across the state.

She reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage through strategic partnerships and inclusive healthcare interventions.
