Kano State is set to host the first edition of the Kano Roller Skates Competition, with participants from 26 states expected to converge on the state for the landmark event.
The competition is scheduled to take place from 28 to 30 October 2026 at the Mahaha Sport Complex, Kofar Naisa, Kano.
Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, and the state Governor’s Special Adviser on Sports, Alhaji Sani Danja, are expected to lead other dignitaries at the opening ceremony.
Chairman of the Kano Roller Skates Association, Ibrahim Aliyu Khalid, described the competition as the first of its kind to be organised in Nigeria.
Khalid credited the initiative to the support of the Kano State Sports Commission chairman, particularly his efforts to promote emerging sports and provide young people with platforms to showcase their talents.
He said the competition would give young athletes and roller skating enthusiasts from across the country an opportunity to demonstrate their skills while contributing to the growth and development of roller skating in Nigeria.
The event is also expected to serve as a platform for identifying promising talents who could represent Nigeria at future national and international competitions.
The Kano State Sports Commission reiterated its commitment to promoting diverse sporting activities and creating an enabling environment for athletes to develop their talents and compete at both national and international levels.
