Scores of women in Kofar Mata area of Kano Municipal local government area took to the streets on Saturday to protest persistent attacks and killings, allegedly carried out by local gangs known as Yan Daba.

The demonstrators, comprising mothers, daughters and sisters, marched through major streets holding placards and calling on the Kano State government and security agencies to urgently address the growing insecurity in their neighbourhood.

“This has gone on for too long,” one resident told LEADERSHIP Sunday under the condition of anonymity, citing fears for her safety. “The thugs from Zango and Kofar Mata have been clashing for nearly a week. It’s getting worse. Two boys are already dead, and many others have been injured. We are tired of living in fear.”

Residents said the clashes often erupt without warning, with gang members attacking people and looting shops.

The Kofar Mata area has long been regarded as a hotspot for gang-related violence, with frequent confrontations resulting in injuries and fatalities.
