To strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery, the Katsina State Executive Council has approved the procurement of 68 tricycle ambulances and 68 hospital hand-pump boreholes for Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).
The approval was given during the 1st Regular Meeting of the State Executive Council for 2026, held at the Council Chamber, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina, and presided over by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Bashir Tanimu Gambo, said the tricycle ambulances and boreholes are targeted at 68 renovated PHCs in the state’s 34 local government areas.
Gambo said the ambulances are designed to address emergency transportation challenges in rural and hard-to-reach communities where access to conventional ambulances is limited.
He said the initiative would improve referral services, maternal and child healthcare outcomes, and timely response to medical emergencies.
The Council noted that the approvals are part of broader efforts by the Radda administration to consolidate recent investments in the renovation and upgrading of PHCs across the state, ensuring that infrastructure improvements are matched with essential operational support.
