Katsina State government has taken delivery of 15 new Toyota ambulances, marking another fulfilled campaign promise by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda to strengthen emergency response and save lives on the state’s highways.
The chief of staff to the Governor, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, disclosed this at the offloading of the ambulances from haulage trucks in Katsina.
He described the development as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to people-oriented governance.
According to Nasir, the recent expansion and rehabilitation of road networks across the state, though highly beneficial, have also led to increased vehicle speed and, consequently, a rise in road traffic accidents.
He explained that the procurement of the ambulances was a proactive measure to address this challenge and reduce avoidable loss of lives.
“With the construction of good roads, people are bound to exceed speed limits, and without proper checks, accidents become inevitable.
“In the spirit of giving governance a human face and in fulfilment of promises made during the campaign, His Excellency promised to purchase 15 ambulances to be stationed along major highways in and around the state”, the chief of staff said.
Nasir noted that the ambulances would be strategically deployed across key routes to ensure rapid response to emergencies and accidents.
He emphasized that the arrival of the vehicles represents “another promise fulfilled” by the Radda administration.
He praised the governor for his consistency between words and action, describing the initiative as remarkable, adding that even critics of the government would find it difficult to dispute the significance of the intervention.
The Chief of Staff further revealed that the cost of the ambulances would be officially disclosed during their formal launch by Governor Radda.
He clarified that the vehicles were procured directly by the Katsina State Government for the benefit of residents.
While speaking on operational arrangements, Nasir assured that a comprehensive plan would be put in place to ensure the effective management of the ambulances.
He said relevant stakeholders, including road safety agencies, the Ministry of Health, road maintenance authorities, and local governments, would work together to manage and deploy the vehicles efficiently.
“I am sure a committee will be established to ensure proper coordination with road safety, health authorities, and local governments where these ambulances will be stationed”, he added.
