The Katsina State Government has condemned the lynching of a trader by youths in Kokami village, Yakaji ‘A’ Ward of Danja local government area of the State, following a fatal stabbing incident.
The violence, which occurred on Saturday, April 4, 2026, was triggered by a dispute between one Ibrahim Khalil Auwal and Joe, also known as K.C. Jones, over the purchase of garri and sachet water by the victim at the latter’s shop.
According to the State government, the dispute escalated when the trader, Joe, allegedly stabbed Ibrahim. The victim was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai, where he was later confirmed dead.
Angered by the development, some youths in the community mobilised themselves, attacked Joe, killed him, and set his body ablaze along the highway.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Muazu Danmusa, the State government described the incident as deeply unfortunate and condemned both the stabbing incident and the reprisal killing.
It stressed that the situation arose from a personal dispute and warned against attempts to portray it as an ethnic or religious conflict. The government further cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
Authorities assured that all those involved in the violence would be identified and prosecuted, while security personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain peace and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Th statement added that the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged community leaders and residents to promote peace and lawful conduct.
