The Katsina State Government has ordered Islamic preacher, Malam Yahaya Masussuka, to appear before a Committee of Ulamas to defend himself against allegations that his teachings violate established Islamic principles.
The directive followed lingering tensions between the preacher and members of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’a, despite earlier intervention by the Katsina Emirate Council.
In a statement issued by director of press , office of the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Ibrahim Almu Gafai, and signed by the SGS, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda mandated that Malam Masussuka must face the committee for a fair hearing, after which clear guidelines for preaching in the state will be rolled out.
Any individual found violating the guidelines would face “appropriate and decisive action,” the government warned.
The state had earlier received complaints that Malam Masussuka’s teachings were offensive and contrary to Islamic law, while the preacher also reported threats and harassment from some members of the Izala group.
The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, had summoned both sides for dialogue, cautioning all preachers against inciting or inflammatory messages.
However, recent reports indicate that the dispute has continued, prompting the government’s latest action.
The public are urged to remain calm as the matter is being handled “judiciously and in the interest of peace and harmony.”
