In a decisive move to strengthen its climate resilience efforts, the Katsina State Government has mandated the inclusion of tree planting spaces in all future road construction projects across the state.
This directive comes on the heels of recent deliberations by the Katsina State Climate Change Council, chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
The 24-kilometre Eastern Bye Pass Road, currently under construction, will serve as the first model for this new green infrastructure policy.
Governor Radda emphasized the importance of timing in the initiative, noting, “Tree planting along our roads will be implemented preferably at the beginning of the rainy season to ensure the survival of the plants.
This will not only provide much-needed shade but will significantly contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions across our state.”
In addition to the infrastructure directive, the Governor also announced an increase in the prize money for the Sallah Climate Change Competition.
The top three winners of the contest will be recognized and awarded certificates at the upcoming national summit in Abuja, where Katsina State’s Green Growth Agenda will be officially unveiled.
These developments reaffirm the Radda administration’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and leading by example in climate action initiatives.
