Katsina Govt Probes Hisbah Board

Following a viral video showing individuals being tortured, the Katsina State government has established a committee to investigate the allegations against the State Hisbah Board.

The committee was inaugurated at the State Secretariat Complex, with secretary to the state government (SSG) Abdullahi Faskari representing Deputy Governor Faruq Jobe.

The committee’s objectives include investigating the viral video and other allegations of victimisation and torture by Hisbah personnel, reviewing the law establishing the Hisbah Board to identify lapses leading to human rights violations, recommending changes to address findings regarding the laws, identifying Hisbah personnel involved in victimisation and torture, and suggesting appropriate sanctions.

The committee, which has 10 days to submit its report, comprises the commissioner of youth and sports development, Aliyu Lawal Zakari, representatives from various ministries and departments, and the state chairman of the coalition of CSOs.

The director of security at the SSG\s Office will serve as the secretary.
