The Katsina State government has procured 3,000 electric motorcycles for teachers posted to remote communities to improve education in rural areas in the state.
The chief executive officer of Ben10 Equipment, Ben Oshi, announced this at a press briefing in Abuja.
He disclosed that the contract, awarded by Governor Umar Dikko Radda, aims to solve a long-standing mobility challenge that has hindered teacher attendance and effectiveness in hard-to-reach terrains.
“For too long, access to quality education in many rural areas has been hindered by a simple but critical challenge: mobility,” Oshi said.
He explained the daily ordeal faced by teachers in rural communities.
“Teachers often travel long distances on difficult terrain, sometimes at great personal cost, to reach their classrooms. This initiative directly addresses that burden,” he added.
According to Oshi, the deployment of the electric motorcycles will reduce fatigue, improve punctuality, and ultimately enhance learning outcomes.
“When teachers can get to school safely, consistently, and with dignity, the quality of education naturally improves,” he said.
Beyond education, Oshi highlighted broader rural development benefits, noting that mobility acts as a catalyst for economic and social growth.
“With these motorcycles, teachers become more connected to their communities, and communities become more connected to opportunity.
“It strengthens local economies, improves access to services, and fosters a more inclusive development process,” he stated.
The CEO also stressed the environmental and economic advantages of opting for electric bikes over fossil fuel-powered alternatives.
“This reflects a forward-thinking approach aligned with global best practices in sustainability. It reduces dependence on fossil fuels, lowers operational costs for beneficiaries, and contributes to a cleaner environment,” Oshi said.
Oshi expressed gratitude to Governor Radda for entrusting Ben10 Equipment with the project, describing the intervention as a strategic investment in the future of education and rural development.
He pledged that the company would ensure high standards of durability, reliability, and long-term maintenance support.
“This initiative sends a powerful message: that rural teachers matter, that their welfare is a priority, and that education remains at the heart of meaningful development,” he said.
