The chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Bauchi Branch, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to uphold the values of humanity, unity and compassion amid increasing humanitarian challenges across the country.

Aminu made the call on Friday during the commemoration of the 2026 World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, themed, “United in Humanity.”

He said the global theme highlights the shared responsibility of individuals, governments and organisations to support vulnerable communities affected by conflict, displacement, disasters and economic hardship.

The chairman also appealed to governments, development partners and members of the public to support and protect humanitarian activities, describing such efforts as essential to preserving human dignity and social stability.

According to him, volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society have continued to provide humanitarian assistance in difficult and remote areas across Nigeria, including flood-ravaged and conflict-affected communities.

He commended the dedication and sacrifice of Red Cross volunteers, describing them as the backbone of the humanitarian organisation.

“Across Nigeria, this principle is demonstrated daily by our volunteers, men and women who serve in difficult and often hard-to-reach areas. From flood-affected communities to conflict-impacted settlements, from urban centres to remote villages, they continue to bring hope where it is most needed,” he said.

“They do not discriminate; they do not delay. They act because humanity demands it,” he added.

The chairman further praised the volunteers for restoring dignity and hope to people facing hardship and uncertainty.

“To every Nigerian Red Cross volunteer, I say with clarity and appreciation, your service is the strength of this society. You restore dignity in moments of distress and bring reassurance where there is uncertainty. You embody the very essence of being united in humanity,” he added.
