Katsina State government has urged the Federal Ministry of Transportation to consider extending the rehabilitation and upgrade of rail lines from Funtua to Zaria.

The acting governor of the state, Faruq Lawal, made the appeal at an event organised by the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria in Katsina.

Lawal explained the importance of this upgrade for the Funtua Dry Port to operate at its optimum level to boost the socio-economic activities of the area and the state at large.

He also called on the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to prioritise the completion of the abandoned dualisation of the Kano-Katsina Road, believing it will help mitigate frequent accidents and ease vehicular movements along the road.

The acting governor expressed confidence in the collaboration between states, the federal government, and professional institutes like CiOTA, adding that the partnership will lead to significant success in building a transport system that meets current needs and anticipates future demands.
