Health professionals in Katsina State have declared a seven-day warning strike over the state government’s failure to address their demands.
The workers, under the Assembly of Health Care Professionals in Katsina State, announced the industrial action yesterday, after a seven-day ultimatum to the government expired.
Briefing journalists, the chairman of the association, Comrade Ibrahim Balange, said the strike would commence at midnight on Wednesday.
He explained that the union had formally notified the state government of its intention to embark on the strike in a letter dated 7th October, 2026, but regretted that its demands remained largely unmet despite the expiration of the warning period.
He added that the decision followed repeated efforts to engage the government in dialogue and seek a peaceful resolution of the issues affecting health professionals in the state.
The association said its members had demonstrated patience and commitment to constructive engagement but could no longer justify further delays, as their concerns remained unaddressed.
Describing the industrial action as a legitimate response to the government’s alleged failure to fulfil its obligations, insisting that the decision was not a rejection of dialogue.
He added that the strike could have been avoided through timely intervention and concrete action by the government.
The association, however, expressed regret over the inconvenience the industrial action might cause to the government and members of the public, reaffirming its commitment to defending the welfare, rights, and professional interests of its members.
