The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 20 suspects over alleged rape and other criminal offences in a sustained effort to curb crime across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Katsina, with details presented by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.

According to the Command, 123 cases were recorded during the period under review. Out of the number, 108 cases have been charged to court, while investigations were still ongoing in 15 cases.

DSP Aliyu explained that the suspects arrested for rape and unnatural offences were apprehended during a broader statewide crackdown targeting various criminal activities.

He added that the police also arrested 22 suspects in connection with armed robbery, seven for culpable homicide, four for dealing in counterfeit currency, and 10 others for possession of illegal drugs.

The police further said several dangerous items were recovered during the operations, including three AK-47 rifles, over 200 rounds of live ammunition, four vehicles, 32 suspected stolen animals, large quantities of illicit drugs, and vandalised electricity cables.

DSP Aliyu noted that the arrests, particularly those involving sexual offences, highlight the Command’s commitment to protecting women, children, and other vulnerable persons in Katsina State.
