Katsina Police Probe Varsity Student’s Death By Civilian JTF

The Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into a tragic shooting incident involving a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Dutsinma local government area of the State.

The incident, which occurred on February 23, 2025, led to the death of Sa’idu Abdulkadir, a 400-level student of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), and injury to a commercial motorcycle rider.

According to the Police, the incident occurred around 11:26am whe the commercial motorcyclist transporting the student was flagged down by a CJTF team in a Hilux vehicle.

One of the JTF members allegedly opened fire, hitting both individuals on the motorcycle.

Law enforcement officers quickly responded to the scene and rushed the victims to Dutsinma General Hospital. However, Abdulkadir was later referred to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Katsina, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A statement by the State’s Police Command’s spokesman, Sadiq Abubakar, expressed deep concern over the incident and assured the public that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The Command is committed to ensuring justice is served and is working closely with the university management and other stakeholders to bring the suspects to justice,” said Abubakar.

The police have pledged to provide further updates as the investigation on the matter progresses.

Meanwhile, the management of FUDMA has temporarily closed down the institution even though normalcy has since been restored to the area.
