The Kebbi State government has reopened the state College of Health Sciences Technology (KBSCHST) in Jega after it was closed for months following students’ unrest.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Hussaini Abdullahi Zuru, who briefed journalists on the development in his office on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, said Governor Nasir Idris directed the ministry to reopen the institution with immediate effect.
Zuru added that the governor was begged by the powerful indigenes of the area during his thank-you visit to the people of Jega, Gwandu, and Aleiro to reopen the college for the betterment of the students, saying that was why the governor instantly directed the ministry to reopen the institution.
” I visited the College on Monday represented my Commissioner where I ordered the reopening of the College as directed by Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu and the College was immediately reopened “, Zuru said.
“I also conveyed a letter of appointment of Acting Provost to Malam Hussaini Aliyu, the Deputy Provost of Administration in the College, and handing over was immediately effective,” he added.
The permanent secretary however charged the new appointee to discharge his duty without fear or favour as expected by the government.
