A week after Kebbi State government’s pledge to provide regular water supply in the metropolis, residents in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, have cried out over lack of portable water for domestic use.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the affected residents are in Badariya, Rafin Atiku, Nassarawa, Illelar Yari, Makerar Gandu and other parts of old town. When the government became aware of the problems associated with water supply in some parts of the metropolis, its officials, led by the secretary to the state government (SSG), visited the Dukku water site in the Badariya area, where they identified broken pipes.
A committee was set up to ensure the repair of the facilities.
It was, however, learnt that after the committee completed its work, the government announced the restoration of the water supply, effective Tuesday last week.
But some residents of Badariya area said the situation had not changed.
When contacted, a senior official at the Ministry of Water Resources, who wished to remain anonymous, said work on broken pipes had been completed. He wondered why the residents had yet to get a supply.
“Maybe the problem could be associated with a lack of power supply by KEDCO,” he said.
