Keystone Bank Limited has restated its support to advancing climate action and sustainable development in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos State.

The bank said this during a two-day Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic (CFPC) organised by the Lagos State government through the Office of Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE), in Lagos.

The event brought together stakeholders from government, the financial services sector and development institutions to discuss capacity for accessing, mobilising and deploying climate finance for sustainable development.

At the event, executive director, Corporate Banking & South at Keystone Bank, Nnenna Anyim Okoro, said collaboration is needed to mobilise capital for climate action.

She said financial institutions should integrate climate considerations into their business strategies and that partnerships between government, development partners and the private sector can help move from discussions to implementation.

“Climate finance requires a collective commitment from government, financial institutions, development partners, and the private sector. Through initiatives like the Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic, we are fostering partnerships and building the capacity needed to move from conversations to practical action that delivers sustainable impact,” she said.

Anyim Okoro said the bank will support financing structures intended to increase funding for climate‑resilient infrastructure and green projects across Nigeria.

She added the bank is working to enable access to local and international climate funds and to support businesses transitioning to low‑carbon and climate‑resilient operations.

“We are working to enable access to local and international climate funds and to support businesses transitioning to low-carbon and climate-resilient operations,” she said.

On her part, special adviser to the Lagos State governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, said the clinic reinforced systems needed to support climate finance.

She described the clinic as a forum for strengthening links between policy, projects, institutions, data and investment.

“This clinic is not just about discussions; it is about strengthening the systems that connect policy, projects, institutions, data, and investment,” she said.

Oshodi added that Lagos State is committed to building a robust climate finance ecosystem that will attract investments, support sustainable projects, and position the state as a leader in subnational climate action in Africa.

She further emphasised the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in achieving long-term climate goals, noting that initiatives such as the CFPC play a vital role in bridging existing gaps.

She also highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in meeting long-term climate goals and said initiatives such as the CFPC can help address existing gaps.

At the ceremony, discussions focused on key areas including climate finance opportunities, climate risk management, ESG integration, transition and blended finance, green lending, waste management, energy efficiency, and emerging opportunities within Nigeria’s carbon market.”

Organisers said the Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic is part of efforts to increase investment in climate‑resilient and low‑carbon development and to provide stakeholders with knowledge and tools to develop bankable climate projects and access funding.
