Kidnappers who killed the Olukoro of Ikoro-Ekiti in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, Oba Segun Aremu, last Thursday, have reduced the N100 million ransom placed on his abducted wife and one other person to N40 million.
The Transitional Implementation Committee (TIC) chairman of Ekiti local government area, Chief Kehinde Bayode, confirmed this to LEADERSHIP yesterday. “The kidnappers have got in touch with the family demanding for N100 million ransom which has now been reduced to N40 million. We are still negotiating with them and right now, I’m on my way to Koro to get the latest information on the negotiation. We will continue to brief you as the situation unfolds and we will keep you posted,” Bayode said.
Last Friday, the kidnappers reached out to the monarch’s family for the payment of N100 million ransom for the release of the two abductees.
The TIC chairman also disclosed that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident.
He said, “The arrested suspect was found with foreign currency and I have got in touch with the DPO in the area not to release him.” However, the spokesperson of Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun did not confirm the arrest of any suspect.
She said no arrest had been made in connection with the incident, adding that “the commissioner of police has deployed a tactical team to Koro Ekiti to fish out the perpetrators.
“Policemen are working with other security agencies to free those who were abducted during the kidnapping incident. No arrest has been made yet. We are going to keep you abreast of the development as it unfolds,” she said.
